Character Base

• Character Name: Lucifer Morningstar
• Age: Ageless. He’s old enough to remember the dinosaurs, so my guess of “thousands of years old” was way, way off in the original app. Physically, he’s in his mid/late 30s.
• Canon (Date/Year Released)/Canon Point: Lucifer (tv) (2016/post-Deerington, post-season 4)
• Items Coming Along: His house, his C1 Corvet, his grand piano, and Beelzegoat
Content Warnings for Character: religious themes, dysfunctional families, self-loathing

Original Deerington Application

• Link to Accepted Deerington Application: Here.
• Additional Adjustments to include:Lucifer had the hard luck of losing a couple of very close friends in Deerington. Bucky’s vanishment hurt, but Maze’s disappearance hit him hard, and he never truly got over it. He just sort of… dealt with it, in the poor way that’s uniquely Lucifer. As always, he masks his loneliness well, but even he can’t lie to himself and say that he wouldn’t want his family— Maze included— with him in his stay in Trench.

Though bad at wanting to get close with people, Michael, being a demon is someone Lucifer felt himself drawn to, regardless of how different their version of Hell are, and he’s an incredibly interesting man to boot. Plus, Michael is a far better person named Michael than the one Lucifer knows, who is a terrible twin brother.

Really, his problem is likely how much he hasn’t found a family of sorts in Deerington.

While initially apped into Deerington with a canonpoint at the end of season 2, Lucifer has been bumped up two years’ time after his return home following the end of the game.

Lucifer’s time in Deerington, along with his bonding with fellow non-humans, means that he is something of a changed man by the time he returns to Los Angeles. Not unrecognizably so, but his confessing of his feelings to Chloe and generally acting like they haven’t seen each other in years when they’d just spoken yesterday freaks her out more than a little.

However, things don’t alter the course of the show much at all. Chloe asks him to give her time, and he doesn’t bring it up again. Unfortunately for Lucifer, season 3 still ends with Chloe seeing his devil face. Season 4 still opens with Lucifer hating himself for making Chloe fear him, and he still, sadly, ends up returning to Hell after the demons attempt, and almost succeed in, kidnapping his newborn nephew.

How an angel and a human actually had a child isn’t exactly clear, but that didn’t stop him from immediately embracing the boy as family.

He never actually intended to go back, especially not when it would leave Hell unguarded, but the strange little signs he started seeing in Hell itself lead him to see what could have possibly happened to the dream after Julia’s death. The fact that, as far as he’s concerned, it’s impossible for him to ever return to Earth, means that Trench is something of a strange spot for him. He can see familiar faces

Speaking of Julia, he’s deeply angered over her death. A part of him suspects that it just wasn’t possible for them to save her, but it’s not something he largely accepts. While he (at least he tells himself) is no fan of children, he has never enjoyed seeing them harmed, and knowing that the very world they now inhabit came about as a result of a child being harmed, well… it’s left him with a number of mixed feelings.

Julia being nonhuman like him just adds to that.

Oh, and it goes without saying, but he still desperately needs therapy.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: As a celestial, Lucifer has several abilities both unique to angels, and also one ability unique to him. All celestials are invulnerable— except for Lucifer, around one Chloe Decker. As well, all celestials can fly. With superhuman strength, that means they can also carry an impressive amount of weight, or do an impressive amount of damage should they choose. And, unique to Lucifer, he has the ability to draw out people’s innermost desires. He can do this by explicitly asking a person, or by being something of a mirror of people’s own desires. It’s not really that well explained in canon, but essentially if someone is really sexually frustrated (and importantly, attracted to men) chances are good that they’d be very, very into Lucifer.

Because angels self-actualize, Lucifer has a “devil face”, something he strongly believes he deserves, otherwise he would not have him. The only reason he has it is because he thinks of himself as a monster, of something that needs punishing. Pretty bleak stuff.

Anyone who sees it is immediately struck with the knowledge that the divine is very, very real, and everything that that implies. Alternatively, the wings will do the same thing, but with less trauma on behalf of seeing Lucifer’s physical manifestation of his problems.

• Blood Type: Paleblood
• Omen: a yellow-eyed tuxedo cat with ears that curl such that they resemble horns
• Blessed Day: June 6, because I think I’m hilarious
• Patron Pthumerian: Remina
• Blood Power Manifestation: Additional to canon abilities.

Having arrived in the waking world, Lucifer’s invulnerability is completely gone, save for the healing-related abilities his new blood gives him. He still has some of his strength— should he want to, he could carry people with him as he flies, but he’s not going to be able to fly his car around or anything. I’d like his flying to be most reliable at night, to keep with the paleblood lore, if that’s doable. Not impossible to fly during the day, but it’s much, much easier at night.

Most of his power now comes from the paleblood coursing through his veins. His ability to draw out people’s desires has been altered by the telepathic powers of his blood, and now he has a chance to just know what someone desires most in a situation. He’s never been one to take advantage of the ability to begin with, as he really only uses it in canon when he and Chloe are doing police work, so while his newfound psychic ability likely won’t be used altruistically, he isn’t the sort to manipulate people. The second half of his ability, that whole people really wanting to get into his pants thing, will vanish entirely just because I’m not really interested in playing it out.

He’ll retain his devil face, now more of a devil form, though as it’s a reflection of deep self-hatred, in moments where he is genuinely at peace with himself he won’t be able to access it even if he really wants to for whatever reason.

IN CHARACTER

Character Name: Lucifer Morningstar
Canon: Lucifer (tv)
Canon Point: the very end of s2e18, after he’s been dumped in the desert

In-Game Tattoo Placement: the back of his left hand
Current Health/Status: A little scuffed up from being hit on the back of the head and falling, and sunburnt from being out in the sun, but otherwise unharmed
Age: It’s never directly stated, but he seems to be thousands of years old at least. Physically he appears to be around 36
Species: Angel

History: here for Lucifer. Here for season 1, and here for season 2.

Personality: Self-centered and arrogant, at first glance, all there is to Lucifer is a man egotistical enough to name himself after the Devil. Very few people know that he is the actual Devil, and even fewer know much about the real Lucifer. Digging a little bit deeper below the surface, Lucifer is a man who cares deeply about justice, finding the person who committed an injustice, and ensuring they receive the punishment they deserve. Unlike the classic biblical concept of the Devil, Lucifer is not the lord of all evil— he punishes evil. It was not a job he originally wanted, but it’s something he cares deeply about in his own way, continuing wanting to punish those who harm other people even years after abandoning Hell.

As an extension of being a punisher instead of the root of evil, he has some uncomfortable issues with people blaming evils on him. Things like ā€œthe devil made me do itā€ and calling things ā€œthe work of the devilā€ incense him like no other, because he doesn’t control what people do, and just as importantly, has no interest in doing so. He’s spent an eternity having people blame him on their own evils, and has developed quite a complex over it. Especially because it’s not like he has many people who truly know who he is that he can talk to about the situation. It horrifies him on a deep, visceral level.

Not only is punishing wrong-doers a focus of his, genuinely helping people out seems to be a focus of his as well. People come to him for favors, and he gives them to those people, in return for a favor in the future. At face value it could be a really terrible thing to do, a Faustian deal with the Devil, but that’s not his style at all. Instead, he relies on using his connections to further specific goals that never involve (intentionally) putting people in danger. He’s just as prone to asking for a person to do something for him as he is to tell a person who owes him a favor to put their life back together as the favor.

One might reasonably assume that, having exclusively seen the worst in people for millennia, that Lucifer is someone who would hate people, separate himself from them, and only come to them when he needs something, but that’s not the case. Admittedly, this used to be who he was, before he decided to leave Hell for an extended vacation that has lasted several years. But it’s not who he is now, instead he’s become a person who cares deeply about others, even if he can’t exactly articulate it. He’d deny it if asked, but he’s found people he cares about, and has even found it in himself to worry greatly about the lives of other people, learning to love them, which had been unthinkable until a few years ago.

While he is incredibly focused on himself, it often comes more from a place of ignorance and the fact that almost every single human he’s spoken to in the past has already been dead and stuck in a Hell loop (experiencing one’s regrets over and over again without end, the true version of Hell in the show) on top of that. He’s just not quite used to living people being put off by his behavior, coming across as callous and inappropriate with his irreverence in the face of death. Knowing that souls depart the world of the living means that he isn’t particularly fazed by the deaths of people he doesn’t know, but his behavior does change drastically when it’s someone he does. People do matter to him, he’s just terrible at admitting.

When he learned of a killer murdering people in his name, he was horrified. Not just because of his disgust at someone attributing him to their own atrocities, but because the people murdered were innocent, and the killing of the innocent is an absolute affront to him. He despises those who slaughter the innocent—another enormous difference between him and the classic understanding of the Devil. He goes so far to call the acts ā€œgenuine evilā€ and doesn’t exactly hide how disturbed he is by acts of malicious violence. He doesn’t want any part of it; part of leaving Hell was how disturbed he became by how his name was forever going to be tied to acts of evil.

Unsurprisingly, because of how many ways he differs from the way people expect him to be, Lucifer has an incredibly low opinion of himself. He spent millennia torturing the dead, punishing the dead, but he feels that due to his reputation, he’s forever alienated and miserable for wanting to be true to himself. That people tend to attribute evils to him regardless of how he wants to be seen as a rebel hurts him on a deep level. All the lackadaisical attitudes and charm are as much the person he wants to be as they are a cover for him to disguise just how vulnerable he is.

He considers himself to be a monster due to killing his brother in self-defense. Much of his own problems are self-inflicted— literally; it’s strongly suggested his Fall was because he believed he deserved to be punished, and the death of his brother by his own hands hasn’t helped matters. It’s left him angry with himself, and while finding a way to save his mother’s life did lead to some improvement of his self-worth, it didn’t do much. He blames himself for people getting hurt around him, and that’s not something he’s going to be stopping anytime soon.

He uses humor to deflect how he really feels about a situation. As he doesn’t lie because of his principles of always being honest, he’ll do what he can to obfuscate the truth when it makes him uncomfortable. Letting anyone know how much he truly hates himself? Definitely off the table. It’s a good way of avoiding things he doesn’t want to talk about, without lying. While he does consider deceiving people to be just as bad as lying, that doesn’t stop him from wiggling as much as he possibly can within his own set of rules. He’s kind of a hypocrite, in other words, but only when it comes to matters about himself.

In large part because of his own principles of not lying, Lucifer also hates liars, and people who don’t believe what they say. He’s a man of passion; a person who lives by his own rules and values those who do the same. A man who doesn’t practice what he preaches, to use a turn of phrase, is the person he hates the most. Even people who he wouldn’t normally like can easily earn his respect by sticking to their personal belief system.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Flight: As a divine being and angel, Lucifer can fly. If he’s strong enough to carry a person, he can fly both of them a great difference, and straight in canon, he can use his flight to return to Hell if need be. He can also use them as a shield, though only at great pain to himself, and they can only be used as a shield for at most himself and one other person. As for warping, even within canon, it’s possible for him to lose his ability to fly; if a divine being considers him or herself as undeserving of something, that person will lose their powers as a form of unconscious self-punishment. The self-loathing in combination with warping magnifies this to extraordinary lengths, meaning if he gets angry with himself for the smallest of details, his wings can vanish in a cloud of feathers. Naturally, he will be unable to flee from Deerington via flight, straying too far will end with him immediately losing consciousness.
Invulnerability and immortality: Like it implies, he’s capable of being shot at point blank multiple times, only to not be injured. Unless Chloe Decker is nearby, in which case he’s capable of bleeding at most minor of injuries, or even dying. In Deerington, blows to vital organs can be fatal. Those organs in question are the brain, the heart, the stomach, and the lungs. Proximity towards people he’s close with can make him bleed if injured, so bleeding out is also possible.

Additionally, while under normal circumstances someone punching him in face wouldn’t do much, straight out of canon another angel deciding he really need to be punched will bruise him; the same holds true with his powers warped. Such that another so-called immortal would bruise him at the very least, likely worse if the fight got serious.
Desires: Lucifer is an angel, and as a result has a gift that’s his alone. He can compel people to tell him their innermost desire, though there are limits: he needs to look them in the eyes to do so, and particularly strong-willed people can fight the impulse. These desires don’t need to be anything dark or power-hungry, it can be just about anything including really wanting to eat lunch or wanting to protect a family member. When warped, he’ll find his power only works at random.
Magnetism: Being what can best be described as ā€œtemptation made fleshā€, Lucifer’s presence has the tendency to, in his own words, make people look at him with ā€œcarnal fascinationā€. Basically, if they’re attracted to men, they can be overcome with desire for him, leading to situations where people aggressively flirt with him, which he’s usually more than willing to be receptive to. It’s sort of a compulsion, people know they shouldn’t, for instance, show off how flexible they are in front of him, but find it difficult to resist the temptation. With this power warped, instead of aggressively flirting with him, people will instead get aggressively angry with him, going so far as violence should the situation progress that far.

Hopefully he’s able to smooth situations over without getting punched a lot.
Devilface: Lucifer’s true face looks like this. In normal circumstances, exposure to it—and to his wings, for that matter— makes a person immediately aware of the presence of the divine. How well a person takes it depends on a number of circumstances. Some take it reasonably well, some take it poorly, others shut down completely. This can still happen, though once again only at random like with his power. Every other time, it looks like he’s just your average nonhuman, or maybe even a guy wearing a doofy costume depending upon the individual looking at him. In addition, rage can make it ā€œstickā€, much to his dismay. Whether it’s him being angry at himself or being angry at someone else, it only subsides once he’s calmed down, and that might take a while.
Uncontainable: Lucifer can get out of any locked room, handcuffs, etc. I'm honestly not entirely certain how to warp this one, since just making it not work seems a little unexciting. Maybe he gets performance anxiety? Regardless I don't want it to work all of the time, he doesn't get to be cool.
Super-Strength: Like it says; being a divine being means that he gets All The Powers. He’s capable of throwing a person across the room with little effort, holding a person a foot off the ground with one hand, that sort of thing. With it warped, he’s only as strong as a regular human.

If any of these need to be warped more, let me know; I’m happy to make Lucifer even more miserable. The powers that work at random will function as an opt-in; by default not working on people at all.
Inventory:
1. One of his suits
2. His cell phone
3. One of Maze’s blades. Important to note is that this blade can harm him, even potentially kill him, without power warping.
4. A grand piano. Somehow.
5. A bathrobe

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Considering Lucifer is the literal Devil, and is constantly getting upset with people blaming him for their actions, or their problems, or depictions of him, absolutely yes. He tells literally everyone he meets that he’s the Devil, they just usually don’t believe him.

What’s a little reference to the comics between friends?
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Psychological horror is my absolute favorite, and that accounts for everything from the doubting of reality to lingering and prominent dread.

I’m also especially partial to body horror, whether than be more Cronenberg/Junji Ito flavor, or slowly turning into something else without the gross-out factor, like werewolves or something similar.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: N/A
Additional Information: Lucifer really, really hates it if you say he’s supposed to be a blond.

ā˜… First Impressions

ā™š VISUAL: Generally just looks like he does in the gif. He's usually in a really fashionable suit, unless he decides he needs to be in a really ugly one for whatever reason. His true face looks like this.
ā™š FASHION: Lucifer is almost always dressed in suits. When he's not in suits, he's in the nicest dress shirts he can find. Even his bathrobe is fashionable, it's ridiculous.
ā™š DEMEANOUR: Outwardly Lucifer oozes confidence and arrogance, as well as charm. Or, at least, someone who considers himself incredibly charming.
ā™š SOUND: here's the season 1 trailer with lots of him talking.
ā™š SCENT: If he smells like anything, it's probably a really bourgeois cologne.
ā™š MENTAL INFORMATION: Lucifer is a mess of self-loathing and bad decisions. We can get into specifics one on one, if you'd like.
ā™š MAGICAL INFORMATION: He's the actual Devil. I'm pretty comfortable with people being able to know that, especially considering he tells everyone he's the Devil as it is. Short of that, it's fine to be able to sense that he's divine, and if that's too much just a regular old immortal also works.

ā˜… OOC

ā™š BACKTAGGING: I'll backtag forever.
ā™š FOURTHWALLING: He's the literal devil; people recognizing him as such, knowing he's immortal or thinking he's a demon is fine. I'm okay with everything short of telling him he's from a television show or comic book series, unless it's for purposes of screwing with his head, in which case eerie discussion is A-OK.
ā™š PHYSICAL AFFECTION: In most cases, if a person shows attraction to him and they're of age, he's into it. There are times when he'd turn down physical affection, which boils down to people behaving abnormally. Otherwise it's easy to get him to be flirty.
ā™š PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Not opposed to it at all. Chat with me if you want to tango! In most circumstances, nothing can harm Lucifer due to his immortality. However, he can be harmed, injured, and evil killed. We can get into specifics as the situation calls. Lucifer himself actually strongly objects to violence against humans; it would take him a lot to actually get him angry enough to fight back.
ā™š RELATIONSHIPS: Lucifer will sleep with anyone who shows a sexual interest in him. Getting him to admit actual feelings for people is like pulling teeth, but I'm not opposed to a slow-burn ship in the least.

ā˜… Permissions

ā™š RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION: This is an OPT-OUT. As he is the Devil, Lucifer brings up religious elements fairly frequently. If, for any reason, you'd rather avoid this, let me know.
ā™š KNOWLEDGE OF THE DIVINE: This is an OPT-IN. In canon, upon seeing his devilface or wings, a person immediately gains understanding that the divine are real. Reactions to this can vary drastically.
ā™š POWER: This is an OPT-IN. Lucifer's power— God-given, as he describes it, is being able to get a person to tell him their strongest desire. He has no control of what this desire it, and even in canon, strong enough people can stop themselves from answering. At any given moment the desire is likely to change, and it can be something innocuous. Not applicable in Deer Country.
