( she waits until he's there, a little bit of magic giving her a hint, a short step through the shadows taking her back to lux. she'd been there a few times since they'd first met, more often in the evening when it was slightly busier, a quiet drink and a watchful eye of the people there but particularly him. lilith was still trying to figure him out even if she shouldn't particularly care. he wasn't her lucifer and yet that was why it was almost compelling.

this time it's during the day, the bar closed and only him on the premises. and now her. she's barely stepped out from the shadows, purple dress with heels announcing her presence before she speaks )

What was your nightmare?

( he'd seen hers after all. and, comfortable as anything, almost as if she owned the place, lilith moves across the bar, dipping behind it to pull out a glass to get herself a drink )

[He looks faintly startled to see her step out of the shadows— he thought everyone had gone home by now— but he relaxes after only a moment, surprised expression morphing into one a little more measured.

Maybe he should be bothered by her coming in to help herself to drinks, but it's not like he gets nearly as much business as the Lux in Los Angeles does.]

...Something bad happening to a person who means a great deal to me. Something I couldn't prevent.

Why would you be unable to prevent it?

( she uses her magic to get to the bottle she's seeking, telekineticly bringing one down from shelf higher than what lilith could reach )

Who would challenge you?

Because I'm dead.

[It's stated matter-of-fact, like maybe the nightmare is a little too real, a little too close to something he's already experienced.]

I'm dead, and there's nothing stopping him from killing her, killing her daughter, because I'm not there to stop him.

( she doesn't react initially to what he says, knowing that it is possible for lucifer to be killed, or at least in her version of events.

instead, she spends a moment pouring her drink, sampling it before responding )

I assume the killer is someone you know?

...In a manner of speaking. I didn't know him well, rather liked to avoid him, to be honest. He was someone my brother decided to fish out of Hell at a point when we weren't getting along.

[He leaves it at that. He's not angry at Amenadiel, they're past that.]

It doesn't matter. He's back in Hell where he belongs.

He may be in Hell but it still corncerns you enough to be your nightmare. Perhaps your biggest fear.

( and also a weakness. it was a good job that this woman wasn't here or he likely wouldn't be so effective. she'll leave him that thought as she drinks )

Does anyone know who you are?

( and believe it with how frequently he hands out his name )

It's... not him. It's what could happen to Chloe. He's just the one who got close.

[He shakes his head.]

No, save for Linda. Even she thought I was speaking in metaphors for over a year.

( she pauses, daring a risky question )

Do you love her?

( why else would he be so afraid for a mortal's life? she didn't want to admit it but she knew something about it )

[He looks at her, mostly surprised at the bluntness of the question.]

I don't know.

[It's not a denial.]

But you do care for her.

( clearly. that's not even a question.

she steps out from behind the bar, drink in hand, leaning against it just on the other side, a fraction closer to him )

Why this mortal?

Of course I do.

[But at her question, he just shakes his head again.]

That's not something I can answer, not easily. My powers don't work on her, they never have.

You like her because you're powerless?

( ot powerless but if he can't use them it is basically the same thing. though lilith knows the fine line of powers and mortals even if her time with adam had been different )

I'm not entirely powerless, it's just my gift that—

I am able to draw out the desires of a human. People tell me things, usually whatever is on their mind at the time. For the most part, these days I only use it for work. Helps with questioning. Just not on her.

One mortal as your weakness.

( this gets all the more interesting )

Is there a reason how she does this? Is she mortal?

She's mortal. She's humored me enough that I know she's not divine.

[He gives a little shrug.]

I've opted not to continue looking into why it is the way it is.

( it had happened to be ironic that the boyfriend of the woman she'd taken the life of was called adam, almost a cosmic joke at her life. but he'd been there before she'd assumed mary wardwell's life, an unknown thing until he'd returned.

and gotten her to fall for him. that-- well, it made her understand how he loved a mortal )

( it probably is but lilith is nothing if not a little bit of a shit stirrer )

[Lucifer shakes his head.]

It's not that I'm ignoring it, I've merely accepted that it is the way it is, and I'm fine with that.

( lilith shrugs, having some more of her drink )

I do worry about her, but everything I've been told makes it sound as though she'll be fine.

( lilith doesn't know how true it is but then again she also doesn't have anyone to worry about )
